Police Officer Peter Browning Found Guilty of Misconduct

Superintendent Peter Browning of Dorset Police has been found guilty of failing to stop a derogatory conversation between police officers in April 2022. The misconduct hearing was held publicly at Dorset Police Headquarters in Winfrith.

Following the hearing, Superintendent Peter Browning has been handed a final written warning lasting three years for not stopping a “disgraceful” conversation between police officers. The high-ranking officer was on a train travelling from London to Dorset in April 2022 after conducting a work-related visit when the sexualised conversation took place.

The public misconduct hearing at the Police Headquarters in Winfrith concluded that senior police officer Peter Browning breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour regarding authority, respect, courtesy, and discreditable conduct.

While there was “insufficient evidence” to demonstrate that Peter Browning “actively engaged” in the conversation, the panel were satisfied he played a “lesser role” in the conversation and breached the standards of behaviour by failing to stop it.

The victim was not present during the public hearing.
