Child abuse can cause both physical and psychological damage to the person being abused and can sadly affect them for the rest of their lives. Every year in the UK, half a million children suffer at the hands of abusers.
At TDP Solicitors, we have helped countless survivors claim compensation for child abuse either via the CICA government scheme or by bringing a civil action against the abuser or their employers.
Bringing a child abuse claim can help you move on with your life, and the money you may be entitled to can help rebuild what the abusers have taken away. If you’d like some help or advice on how to make a child abuse claim, give us a call and a member of the team will be able to help you.
Types of Child Abuse
Child abuse can take many forms. In fact, all of the following are considered by law to be child abuse.
Sexual abuse
If a person is under the age of 18 and is forced to perform sexual acts on someone, then this is classed as child rape or child sexual abuse. This term also extends to online abuse such as exposing oneself to a minor over a webcam or sending illicit pictures.
Neglect
This is defined as when a child is left unsupervised without their basic needs being met. If a child goes hungry without shelter then this is classed as neglect. If you suspect a child is suffering at the hands of neglect, then please contact the NSPCC.
Female Genital Mutilation
This is the act of removing some or all of the external female genitalia. It is a crime in the UK to undergo this procedure and can be psychologically damaging as well.
Physical Abuse
This is when someone deliberately hurts a child and causes them harm or injury. This type of abuse can be from objects thrown as well as from physical striking.
Emotional Abuse
A lot of abuse is classed under this term, such as public humiliation, isolation, deliberate scaring and more.
